• Sabareesh.G.R of Department of Mechanical Engineering presented a paper on 'New Generation Pattern Classification for Fault Diagnostics and Prediction in Induction Motors' at the International Conference CITICOMS conducted by CIT, Coimbatore.

Students Academic Achievements

• Aby Abraham & Sajin Cherian of S8 ME  was placed first for the event HELIOTHERM organised as a part of VIDYUT 2012 - National Level Technical Fest at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus.The target assigned to the team was accomplished with the help of their final year project.The team have been appreciated with a cash prize of Rs 30000/-
• Vipin Varghese & Vaishak S  of S8 ME has bagged Rs 5000/- for the Project Presentation competition in the National Level  Technical Fest at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus.
• ME  students have bagged following prizes in AZURE 2011- Technical Fest held at Amal Jyoti College of Engineering -- Auto Quiz - 3rd,  General Quiz - 3rd, Project Presentation - 3rd, Concept Ppt - 3rd
• Er. Amith Aravind of Mechanical Engineering Department, SAINTGITS bagged first rank with distinction in M.Tech MACHINE DESIGN, MG University with a CGPA of 8.42.
• Arjun Radhakrishnan, student of the 2007 ME Batchhas made the college proud by bagging the second rank of the Mahatma Gandhi University in 2007.

• Aswin Chandy Alex & Arun Sagar of 2008 Batch has bagged the second prize in the National level Paper presentation competition conducted at SCMS College of Engineering, Ernakulam, Kerala in 2007.The paper was on 'Alcoholic Fuel cells-As a viable Alternative to Internal Combustion Engines'.
• Thomas Syle Samu & Thoms Chacko of 2008 Batch has won second prize in the National Level Paper presentation Competition held at ToCH College of Engineering, Ernakulam, Kerala in 2008 and the paper was on 'Preparation & Evaluation of Biodiesel from Vegetable Oil on a Compression Ignition [CI] Engine'.
• Dennis Daniel & Mathew Antony of 2009 ME Batch has bagged the second prize in the Quiz competition held at SJCET,Pala, which was organised by the ISTE students' chapter.
• Paul J Alengadan & Rahul R of 2009 ME Batch has secured the second place in the Technical Paper Presentation competition held at Amal Jyothi College Of Engineering [AJCET], Kanjirapally,Kottayam. The programme was organised by ISTE & EEE Department of AJCET.
• Paul J Alengadan & Rahul R of 2009 ME Batch has secured the first place in the Technical Paper Presentation competition held at Musaliar College Of Engineering ,Pathanamthitta]. The programme was organised by the Mechanical Department.
• Vishnu M of 2009 ME Batch has qualified GATE 2009.

Manorama Yuva Mastermind Award

The mechanical safety elevator and the rotary engine was the brainchild of two groups of students from 5th semester mechanical engineering department of Saintgits. High on hopes of realization of their dreams, no wonder they signed up and sent their initial designs to the Manorama Yuva Mastermind competition organized by Malayala Manorama in collaboration with IEDC, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirapally.

The event was a technical competition for innovative ideas in the form of projects and was aimed at all students through out kerala, both school level as well as college level. Among the 500 odd ideas that were submitted to the competition from all over kerala 35 were selected to the finals. The selection was based on a presentation of the idea which was judged by a panel of experienced and specialized engineers and professors for feasibility and innovation. The presentation took place in Manorama office in Ernakulam. Of the 35, 19 were from college level while 16 were from school level. Both the teams from Saintgits were given the green signal for the finals along with fine remarks and suggestions from the judges. The teams were given Rs10000 in installments as financial support for the successful completion of the project. The students were given three months time for fabrication in between which there were inspection by select officials from Manorama.

The mechanical safety elevator was represented by Ebin Kuruvilla, Jaison Dominic, George Mathew, Jijo Jose and Meghin Joseph. They were guided by Asst. Professor Francis Augustine Joseph of ME dept.The project was aimed at the welfare of the people who uses elevators (lifts) frequently. The design was to provide a safe route to bring down people who are trapped in an elevator without using any electricity. It could also be used to bring people down from higher floors safely in case of massive power failures due to disasters like fire, earthquake etc.

The rotary engine was represented by Joju Zacharias, Johny Varghese, Cherin N Abraham and Gibu Tom Aby. They were guided by Professor Sajan Thomas of ME dept It was a new type of rotary engine that was very small and compact while providing tremendous amount of power by directly converting the expansion energy of a burning fuel into rotational energy.

After three months of toiling in the college workshops and with help from the workshop instructors the projects were finally presented at Amal Jyothi College Of Engg. on 18th of February, 2011 where a special panel of renowned engineers and professors judged the 35 projects in both school and college categories. Both the projects got a large amount of attention from the visitors which included students, teachers and mainly ordinary people from all over Kerala.

The rotary engine was voted one of the best technical projects in the competion. Other projects included railway crossing safety, boat accident safety, robotic arm, safety walking stick etc. The day was mainly attributed for presentation to the public. On 19th the results where announced ceremoniously in the presence of former President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, but only after an inspiring talk and interaction with the legendary personality. The speech was brief but motivating explaing the needs of innovation and how it could make you 'the unique you'. After the speech the results were announced. The award for the best project in human safety, Prof. Satish John Memorial Special Prize, which included Rs 60000 cash prize and trophy, was awarded to the team for their Mechanical Safety Elevator, by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam who heartily congratulated them of their hard work and dedication.

Engineering design at work for the community

Our students are gaining international exposure by working in teams with Caltech students from Pasadena, USA in designing products for the developing world. The student teams are involved in identifying the needs of the rural consumer in order to design products that are affordable to the consumer. Seven teams each comprising of Caltech students and SAINTGITS Mechanical Engineering and Business students are working on seven distinct projects. Dr. Ken Pickar and Michelle Jiang from Caltech, along with Dr. Jason Cherian Issac and Vinay Mathew John from SAINTGITS are communicating with the international team of students through video conferencing. The student teams are also involved in market research so that their efforts lead to new products for the rural consumer that will aid in income generation thereby improving the lives of the people at the 'bottom of the pyramid'. Two groups Received 500 dollars fund from Caltech to complete their project.

Non-Academic Achievements

• Sibi Kuriyan and Terrin.V.Mathew of 2008 ME Batch won 1st prize for Rock band competition at MBC, Peerimedu and Amaljyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirapally and 3rd prize at MBT, Trivandrum.
• Arun.N of 2008 ME Batch qualified as the quarterfinalist in South Indian Bank Grand Master Quiz jointly conducted by South Indian Bank and Asianet.
• Riyas M of 2008 ME Batch won the second prize for short movie making at 'Luminere'conducted at College of Engineering Kidangoor.
• Varun Sasidharan of 2012 ME was one of the member of the Quiz team whiach bagged the 1st place in the District level competition organized by SBT ON 4TH December 2008
• Varun Sasidharan of S1S2 ME was one of the member of the Quiz team which bagged the 3rd place in the Zonal level competition organized by SBT ON 4th December 2008.
